We have a delicious range of snacks (savoury and sweet) for you to try, from interestingly diverse culinary cultures. Whether you are looking forward to a tasty bite on a lazy Sunday afternoon that would complement an ice cold glass of champagne or cava, or for something you can eat on-the-go whilst rushing to the office, we have your snack requirements covered!
Many snacks, such as our spiced almonds, can be made beforehand and enjoyed over the next couple of days. Some snacks, like the Italian sausage and caramelised red onion quiche, can contribute a good part of a healthy meal, garnished with a little salad.
Poolside (whether it´s an olympic-sized infinity pool or a simple paddling pool for the children), you simply cannot beat a drop of bubbly, served with fresh fruit – check out our cava and strawberries post.
Something from the barbecue – you acnnot do better (and easier) than a mix of tastes on a skewer. For example, try our approach to “surf and turf”, plancha-style, with garlic prawn, chorizo and baby tomato skewers.
The snacks we have included can be sweet, savoury or a mix of the two, and can range from the ridiculously simple to the absurdly complicated. Why not delve in and take a look at what we have to offer? There is a snack for all tastes and purposes!
Bitterballen are exceptionally delicious snacks that originate from the Netherlands. When eating out at one of our favourite Dutch restaurants, my Dutch family and I would often take a few of these as an “hors d´oeuvre”, whilst seated in a quiet, comfy corner of the (read more…)
Hummus, served with freshly-baked pitta ticks all the boxes for me. It is simply delicious, good for you, and can be served as either a snack or a complete meal (with fresh vegetables). If you include the fact that it´s vegetarian, what´s not to like? (read more…)
Home-made authentic English crumpets. Wonderfully indulgent, they are quite time-consuming to make, but really worthwhile. Either serve them simply buttered, or covered with local runny honey or your favourite topping. Once the topping soaks through the holes in the crumpet, cut it in half, to (read more…)
These fruit and nut cookies are coated on the outside with crushed cornflakes, giving a crunchy bite. The centres are slightly gooey (especially if served straight out of the oven), giving an irresistible contrast. Makes about 25 cookies. Ingredients 125 g salted butter at room (read more…)
I have recently become increasingly interested in Japanese culture and gastronomy, so thought I would have a go at one of the dishes we in the West associate most with Japan. Sushi, or more correctly, Maki Sushi. I have included my simple take on this (read more…)
Sunday mornings are lazy times in our house. My wife and I tend to get up late and bumble about like zombies for a while, catch up on the news and do the daily crossword. One of us will then suggest a coffee. Weekend coffees (read more…)
It´s time for another afternoon snack. In this post, I have prepared some Garlic Prawn, Chorizo and Tomato Skewers. A different take on “surf and turf”, these skewers are truly mouth-watering and extremely simple to prepare. They can then be fried on the plancha, barbecue (read more…)
Trying to think of another use for the gourmet Italian sausages made a couple of posts ago, and in need of a substantial snack, my wife suggested making a quiche. Being a great lover of caramelised onions, I decided on a sausage and caramelised red (read more…)
Summer is with us – time for “Strawberries and Cava”! There is truly nothing more delicious on a sweltering hot summer day than this combination of flavours. To bring out the true strawberry taste, I made a quick and simple syrup mix in which to (read more…)
Although we are back to having rain again now, the sun made a brief appearance yesterday, so my wife and I decided to pop outside for a couple of hours and enjoy the weather with a drink. It must be time for Spanish tapas! There (read more…)
